Why Nutrition Matters during the early years

Toddler nutrition support to help your child grow, learn and thrive at Nourished Nest

As your child transitions to solids, you have the opportunity to help them develop healthy eating habits and enjoy food.

Weaning can be an exciting but overwhelming phase for parents, with advice from books, articles, friends, and family sometimes feeling daunting.

If you're looking for professional guidance from someone who understands your journey and can boost your confidence, simplify the weaning process, and make it more enjoyable, I'm here to help.

We're well aware of how nutrition impacts a child's development, growth, and behaviour, particularly in their early years. During the first 1000 days of a child's life, up to their 2nd birthday, their brain experiences rapid development, and specific foods play a vital role in supporting this growth.

Around 1 year of age, the nutrients they've received from mum and stored since birth begin to deplete, making it crucial to introduce a well-balanced diet when introducing your child to family meals.

In my 1:1 programs, I offer standard weaning advice, including:-

  • Starting with vegetables,

  • Focusing on nutrient-dense meals,

  • Incorporating healthy fats and protein in every meal,

  • I encourage a colourful variety of fruits and vegetables.

Where I add value is by providing strategies for dealing with children who refuse to eat vegetables and methods to increase protein and healthy fats. I offer practical solutions to introduce a diverse range of colourful plant foods, even with busy schedules.

Introducing a variety of nutritious foods from the beginning can lead to a healthy diet throughout childhood, benefiting immunity, gut health, school performance, emotional well-being, and overall health. If your child is displaying early signs of picky eating and rejecting healthy foods, I can recommend strategies to maximize their nutrient intake.

How can My Programs help you introduce solids to your child?

I offer personalised weaning support through 1:1 online consultations, recognising the challenges many parents face in the realm of family nutrition and creating a judgment-free zone.

While we generally understand what we should feed our children, every child is unique, and my role is to help you incorporate as many nutritious foods as possible. I can also help shape the preferences of more adventurous eaters.

Between 4 to about 14 months, I recommend a weaning program that involves repeated exposure to new foods, including a variety of vegetables, which can help babies develop a taste for them and reduce sudden dislikes for previously accepted foods, a common occurrence between 2-5 years of age.

I firmly believe in a personalised nutritional program that's easy to follow, especially for busy mums. My passion lies in helping you navigate the sea of conflicting information and providing key facts supported by the latest scientific evidence, enabling you to enjoy your child exploring different textures and flavours, along with those adorable faces they make!
