You just grew and birthed a human being. Your nutrition matters too.

The postnatal period is one of the most nutritionally demanding times of your life and one of the most overlooked. During pregnancy your body naturally prioritises your baby's needs, often leaving your own nutrient stores significantly depleted by the time you give birth. Then comes the reality of new motherhood, exhaustion, brain fog, emotional ups and downs, the physical demands of recovery, and if you're breastfeeding, continuing to nourish your baby through your own body. All while running on broken sleep. You deserve proper nutritional support through this. Not just advice to "eat well and rest" — but a personalised plan that actually addresses what's happening in your body and helps you feel like yourself again.

I'm Louise Slope, a BANT-registered nutritional therapist supporting new mothers across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and online across the UK, through one-to-one support and my own fortnightly postnatal group, New Beginnings.

Postnatal Nutrition Suport

What postnatal nutrition support actually looks like

Every new mum's experience is different, some are recovering from a difficult birth, some are struggling with breastfeeding, some are dealing with low mood or anxiety, and many are simply exhausted in a way they've never experienced before. My support is always built around you specifically, not a generic postnatal plan. Here's what we typically cover:

🌟Replenishing depleted nutrients — identifying and addressing the specific nutritional deficiencies that are most common after birth, including iron, B12, omega-3, vitamin D, zinc, and iodine. These deficiencies directly affect your energy, mood, focus, and physical recovery.

🌟Breastfeeding nutrition — whether you're breastfeeding, formula feeding, or combination feeding, I'll help you ensure both you and your baby are getting what you need. The quality of your diet also influences the flavours your baby experiences through breast milk, gently laying the groundwork for easier weaning later.

🌟Hormonal balance and mood — the dramatic hormonal shift after birth affects every new mum differently. Targeted nutritional support can help stabilise mood, reduce anxiety, and protect your mental health during this vulnerable period.

🌟 Energy and sleep — while we can't always help you sleep more, we can make sure your diet is working as hard as possible to sustain your energy through broken nights and demanding days.

🌟Postnatal allergies and intolerances — for mums or babies showing signs of food intolerances, allergies, colic, or reflux — I can help identify dietary triggers and make the adjustments needed to keep you both comfortable.

🌟 Supplements for mum and baby — clear, personalised guidance on what's actually worth taking postnatally, based on your specific needs and circumstances.

Postnatal support in your community

As well as one-to-one nutritional therapy, I believe new mums need community, the reassurance that other people are going through the same things, and a safe space to ask questions without feeling judged. I attend postnatal groups at The Village Midwife, providing nutritional support to new families in South Buckinghamshire from birth through to the early months of motherhood.

I also run my own fortnightly postnatal group, New Beginnings , a warm, welcoming space for new mums and their babies in Beaconsfield, bringing together expert nutrition guidance, peer support, and guest speakers covering everything from baby massage and first aid to sleep and emotional wellbeing.

Testimonial

"Louise was so informative throughout our work together, providing really helpful information in diagrams and written information both during our sessions and afterwards for me to use to help inform my choices. I always felt like the information given was a choice and there were so many options for incorporating positive changes into my diet. I felt very held and supported by Louise who has excellent listening skills and was so compassionate throughout our time working together. It has helped me make lasting changes to our family diet and I am seeing the health benefits as a result." — Postnatal nutrition client
