Pregnancy Nutrition Support
Give Your Baby the Best Start From Day One
Pregnancy is one of the most nutritionally demanding times of your life and with so much conflicting advice online, knowing what to actually eat can feel more overwhelming than exciting.
I'm Louise Slope, a BANT-registered nutritional therapist supporting pregnant women across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and online across the UK. I provide clear, personalised guidance grounded in the latest nutritional research, so you can feel confident you're nourishing both yourself and your baby, trimester by trimester.
The first 1,000 days from conception to your baby's second birthday are crucial for shaping their gut health, immune system, brain development, and lifelong relationship with food. Getting nutrition right during pregnancy is the very first step in that journey.
How I Can Help
🌟Supplement clarity — with hundreds of pregnancy supplements on the market, knowing what you actually need is genuinely confusing. I provide personalised supplement guidance based on your specific diet, health history, and trimester, covering the nutrients that matter most: folate, DHA, vitamin D, choline, iron, iodine, and B vitamins.
🌟Confidence your baby is developing well — the worry about whether your baby is getting everything they need is one of the most common things pregnant women bring to me. A thorough nutritional assessment gives you the reassurance and the plan to feel genuinely confident at every stage.
🌟Gestational diabetes support — whether you've been diagnosed or want to reduce your risk, I'll help you manage your blood sugar through evidence-based dietary changes, focusing on blood glucose balance, protein at every meal, and a polyphenol-rich diet that works alongside any medical advice you're receiving.
🌟Digestive comfort throughout pregnancy — bloating, constipation, reflux, and nausea can make eating well feel impossible. I'll help you identify what's causing your symptoms and what to do about it, including specific strategies for hyperemesis gravidarum if you're experiencing severe morning sickness.
Contributing expert: Mum, Interrupted
I contributed specialist nutritional expertise to Mum, Interrupted: The ADHD Woman's Guide to Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond by Sarah Marsh published by a leading UK health journalist and author.
The book addresses the unique challenges neurodivergent women face during pregnancy and beyond, blending lived experience with expert insight.
My contribution covers the nutritional considerations specific to pregnant women with ADHD, an area that is chronically underserved in mainstream pregnancy guidance. Sarah Marsh also featured my work in The Guardian's expert guide to living well with neurodiversity, making this an ongoing professional relationship built on shared expertise in neurodivergent health.
Pregnancy nutrition support for neurodivergent women
Pregnancy brings unique nutritional challenges for every woman, but for neurodivergent women with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or dyspraxia, those challenges can be significantly more complex and are rarely addressed in mainstream pregnancy guidance.
Sensory sensitivities and food aversions
For women with sensory sensitivities, pregnancy can intensify existing food aversions dramatically. Smells, textures, and temperatures that were previously manageable may become genuinely intolerable, making eating enough of the right foods feel almost impossible, especially in the first trimester. I work with neurodivergent pregnant women to identify which nutrient-dense foods they can tolerate within their sensory profile, and how to maximise nutritional value from a limited or aversion-driven diet, without pressure, without judgement, and without unrealistic expectations.
Executive function and meal planning
For women with ADHD, the executive function demands of pregnancy, planning meals, remembering supplements, maintaining routines, can feel overwhelming on top of everything else pregnancy brings. Brain fog, fatigue, and the cognitive load of growing a baby can make even simple meal planning feel impossible. I provide simple, flexible meal frameworks rather than rigid plans, designed to work with how a neurodivergent brain actually functions, not against it. Clear, achievable, and adaptable to the reality of how you're feeling each day.
Nutritional considerations specific to ADHD and autism in pregnancy
Research increasingly links certain nutritional factors to neurodevelopmental outcomes, including omega-3 DHA for foetal brain development, choline for neural tube development and cognitive function, and iron and iodine for foetal neurodevelopment. For neurodivergent women, ensuring adequate intake of these nutrients is particularly important, both for their own wellbeing and for their baby's development. I provide specialist guidance on these specific nutritional needs, tailored to your neurodivergent profile and the realities of your pregnancy experience.
I understand neurodivergent pregnancy from both a professional and personal perspective. My support is adapted to how you work best, whether that means shorter, focused sessions with clear actions, or deeper dives into the research and the why behind every recommendation.
Navigating Prenatal Nutrition with Confidence
My approach to pregnancy nutrition is grounded in specialist clinical training alongside my core nutritional therapy qualification, including:

Supporting You Through Every Stage
Gut Health & Digestion: Bloating or constipation? Tackling these early can make a big difference in your comfort as pregnancy progresses. Plus, a healthy gut for you means better digestion, immunity, and overall health for your baby.
Shaping Your Baby’s Food Preferences: Did you know? Your baby’s taste buds develop in the womb! What you eat during pregnancy can shape their food preferences later in life.
By eating a diverse, nutrient-dense diet, you can make weaning easier and encourage your baby to enjoy a variety of flavours—including vegetables!
Balancing Blood Sugar: Balancing blood sugar throughout pregnancy can ease morning sickness, sustain energy levels, and reduce the risk of gestational diabetes. Small changes — like pairing carbohydrates with protein and healthy fats — can make a significant difference to how you feel day to day.
A personalised approach to pregnancy nutrition not only supports your baby’s development but also enhances your energy, well-being, and recovery after birth. Let’s make this journey one of confidence and nourishment.
